Galway County Council is putting an extra €10m into its efforts to build affordable housing schemes.
At a meeting this week, councillors were told it'll support schemes in the Tuam, Loughrea, Connemara and Athenry-Oranmore municipal districts.
Ballinasloe isn't in the frame for new schemes at the moment, due to issues surrounding land there.
This €10m loan, described as a "bridging loan" to streamline development, is a top-up on a much larger allocation already in place for affordable housing schemes.
The local authority has faced criticism over an almost total absence of affordable housing built over the past 10 or 15 years.
Councillors were almost unanimous in approving the loan this week, but attention quickly turned to what exactly constitutes an affordable home these days.
David Nevin spoke to several councillors afterwards to talk about some of the points that were raised.
