Well known Mussel harvesters Killary Fjord Shellfish have invested €270,000 into new state-of-the-art harvesting equipment.
The Connemara based Aquacultuire business have also expanded their rope-grown Mussel system to increase yield and reduce fuel consumption.
The Leenane-based company recieved a grant for the equipment worth €118,000 under the sustainable Aquaculture scheme.
As demand rises for shellfish such as Mussels, the investment allows the company to grow more efficiently and sustainably.
Co-owner Simon Kennedy says that the equipment will reduce hours lost for maintenance and lead to a safer work environment.
