The EU Parliament has heard how the student-operated foodbank at University of Galway is forced to turn hundreds away every week due to demand.
The matter was raised by local MEP Ciaran Mullooly, who warned rising food and fuel costs are pushing Galway families to breaking point.
He argued households do not need further briefings or speculation about possible support schemes, but immediate and concrete action.
Independent Ireland MEP Mullooly said the situation facing students, pensioners and low-income families in Galway is a warning sign for communities across Ireland.
