Fianna Fail has selected Oranmore-based councillor Cillian Keane to contest the upcoming Galway West bye-election.
At a party convention in Salthill last night, he saw off competition from city councillor Alan Cheevers and Connemara councillor Máirtín Lee.
Councillor Keane is a first time councillor, winning the final seat in the Athenry-Oranmore constituency in 2024
His selection brings to eleven the number of candidates confirmed to contest the bye-election, which will be held on either May 15th or 22nd.
