Galway County Council is among the most active local authorities in taking enforcement actions against developers over social housing obligations.
Developers are being accused of breaching planning rules requiring them to deliver a percentage of social housing as part of new housing estates.
Galway County Council started 12 enforcement actions against developers in 2025 alone, the most of any local authority last year.
While Galway City Council have only opened one enforcement action in the past five years.
The 'Journal Investigates' has revealed 61 enforcement actions have been brought by Councils since 2020.
