A cross-council collaboration on the Irish language has taken place in Galway
Elected representatives and Irish Language Officers from six Local Authorities in the West and North West have met at Galway City Council
Representatives from Galway City and County, Donegal, Sligo, Mayo and Clare have shared experiences and discussed actions to progress key elements of the Official Languages Act
This includes the requirement for 20% of local authority staff to be competent in Gaeilge by 2030.
It's anticipated that the group will collaborate in future on issues relating to provision of services through Irish and regularised usage in Council.
