A Galway motorist has been caught doing 174km/h in a 100 zone in Claregalway.
The offence was detected during a major safety crackdown over the Bank Holiday weekend, covering from last Thursday to yesterday.
A report just issued states four people died on the roads and twelve others were seriously injured over the June Bank Holiday weekend.
Over 4,600 motorists were caught speeding.
400 people were fined for holding a mobile phone and a further 110 were caught not wearing their seatbelts.
Gardaí say 209 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs over the weekend.
