Galway records 989 cases of Covid 19 in last fortnight

Galway Bay fm newsroom - 989 Covid 19 cases were recorded in Galway city and county over the last fortnight.

Latest figures from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre show Galway has a 14 day incidence rate of 383.2.

Monaghan has the highest 14 day rate nationwide at 1001.9, while Waterford has the lowest such rate at 256.5.

It comes as the Chief Medical Officer has warned Ireland's high incidence rates of Covid-19 means the reintroduction of restrictions cannot be ruled out.

Tony Holohan will tell TD's and Senators that the high vaccination rate alone is unlikely to suppress the disease.

He'll tell an Oireachtas Committee the trajectory of the virus is uncertain and we'll remain dependent on rapid self-isolation, mask wearing and robust testing this autumn and winter.
