Ash trees suffering form dieback are 'a risk to road users' and are 'structurally unsafe'.
This is according to Galway Fine Gael Senator and by election candidate Sean Kyne, who is calling for a county-wide ash tree survey and felling plan.
He says that landowners are facing pressures and significant costs to remove infected trees from their land.
Ash dieback was first identified in Ireland in 2012, since then there has been research working on ash breeding and conservation practices to save the species.
Senator Kyne says the County Council needs to put together a plan and apply for government funding for the survey.
