Galway TD calls on Government to give tax amnesty to PUP recipients

Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Government is being urged to give a tax amnesty to PUP recipients.

Independent Galway East TD Sean Canney says now is not the time to demand taxes from people who may have been out of work for several months.

Revenue has stated PUP is not taxed in real time, however, it is liable to income tax at the end of the year.

From this week Revenue will make a Preliminary End of Year Statement available all PUP recipients.

This statement will include information on the amount of PUP individuals received and a preliminary calculation of income tax and USC owed for 2020.

Deputy Canney says the Government needs to show solidarity with people rather than creating further anxiety....
