Galway West by-election opinion polls shows Kyne has slight lead over Thomas

Seán Kyne has a slight lead over Noel Thomas in a new Irish Times and TG4 opinion poll for the Galway West by-election.

However, it's a lead of just one percent - with the Fine Gael Senator on 17 percent, and the Connemara Independent Ireland councillor on 16.

At 12 percent, Labour’s Helen Ogbu is polling strongly among left-leaning voters and could benefit from transfers as the count progresses.

Míde Nic Fhionnnlaoich of the Social Democrats is next at 9 percent, followed by Fianna Fáil's Cillian Keane at 8 percent.

While Independent Mayor of Galway Mike Cubbard and Sinn Féin's Mark Lohan are neck and neck at 7 percent.

Pat Leahy, Irish Times political correspondent says transfers will be crucial, with Sean Kyne edging it.
