Galway West by-election to be called by Government this week

By elections in Galway West and Dublin Central are to be called by the Government this week, with polling date expected to be Friday, May 22nd.

Cabinet Ministers will note the date at their meeting this morning, and the formal writ will then be moved in the Dáil tomorrow night.

The elections are being held to replace Independent Catherine Connolly following her election as President and former Fine Gael Minister Paschal Donohoe who took up a position at the World Bank.

There are 12 candidates confirmed for the Galway West by-election - with all of the main parties represented along with several independents.
