The Glenamaddy Players have been crowned winners of the ADCI All-Ireland Confined Drama finals for the first time in their history.
Their play ‘Chapatti’ by Christian O’Reilly, directed by Colman Keaveney, took the Premier Award at a gala ceremony held this evening at The Patrician in Carrickmore Co Tyrone.
The announcement was made by Adjudicator Martin Maguire leading to wild scenes of celebration among the travelling Glenamaddy support.
Second was Gorey Little Theatre with their play ‘Gut and’ third place went to Slieve Aughty Drama Group with ‘The Outgoing tide’.
The Players also received individual nominations with Colman Keaveney nominated for Best Director, Padraic Newman for Best Actor and Marie Coneran for Best Actress categories.
The finals also featured Bualadh Bos from Oranmore who performed their play ‘Under the bed’ and Upstage Players from Claremorris who won best stage management for their play ‘The year of the hiker’.
Glenamaddy Players are also the first Galway group in ten years to win the National Premier Award.
The last Galway group to win it was Compántas Lir from Claregalway who won the title in 2016 with their play 'Proof'.
