Green light for new fire station in Athenry to proceed to construction

Galway Bay fm newsroom - There's been an important step forward in plans to build a new fire station in Athenry.

Local councillors have voted in favor of a Part 8 planning application, which has cleared the way for the project to move to construction stage.

At this week's meeting of the Athenry-Oranmore municipal district, it was confirmed that a contractor is expected to be appointed by the end of October.

The new station would be based at Ballygurran South on the southern side of Athenry, adjoining the ring road.

It'll replace existing facilities at Clarke Street which are considered not fit for purpose.
