Heavy Garda presence remains at Port of Galway as fuel operations return to normal

There's an ongoing heavy Garda presence at the Port of Galway, as fuel operations there have returned to normal.

There's up to 40 Gardaí dispersed in groups - not just around the entrance but the wider Harbour area, as well as Lough Atalia.

Trucks have been coming and going since this morning and there are checkpoints in the area.

It's after the blockade that was in place all last week was dismantled during a Garda operation early yesterday morning.

Although Galway and Foynes are back to normal capacity, Whitegate in Cork is 'slower' to return due to Garda escort action still in operation there.

CEO of Fuels for Ireland, Kevin McPartlan says he's hopeful that will change and it will be back in action as normal today too.
