The HSE has issued a public advisory as UHG is under serious pressure.
Yesterday, there were 234 presentations to the emergency department.
As of this morning, there are 51 patients on trolleys awaiting admission to in-patient beds, with additional surge beds in use.
Due to the pressures on the site and the lack of bed capacity, the hospital is postponing some elective procedures.
The HSE says urgent, time sensitive cases are being prioritised.
Patients are being contacted directly if their procedure is being postponed.
Significant delays are being experienced by patients in the emergency department today.
UHG is assuring the public that people who are seriously injured or ill are assessed and treated as a priority.
However, those who do not require urgent care may be waiting longer.
