Irish Rail, Gardaí and RSA on patrol at three Galway level crossings

Irish Rail, An Garda Síochána and the RSA will be patrolling at three level crossings in Galway today as part of International Level Crossing Awareness Day.

There have been thirty recorded incidents of misuse of level crossings so far this year, with eleven resulting in injury or crossing damage.

Members will be at Athenry, Sullivan's Crossing and Oranmore this morning to highlight this year's campaign theme 'safe decisions - every time'

Meanwhile, cameras are going to be set up at a number of level crossings in a bid to stop dangerous behaviour.

Drivers will now be fined 160 euro if they speed at a level crossing and 80 euro if they break a red light.
