Junior Minister Seán Canney attends national launch of Easter roads safety campaign in Loughrea

Drivers need to get to their destination safely, not quickly, according to the Junior Transport Minister.

Seán Canney has been speaking in Loughrea which Gardaí and RSA chose as the location for the national launch of the Easter road safety campaign

Forty one people have died on Irish roads so far this year.

Eight of these fatalities happened during a bank holiday weekend.

Junior Transport Minister Sean Canney is asking drivers to take care this weekend:

Analysis of recent fatal and serious collisions shows drivers and pedestrians are at the highest risk of being involved in accidents.

The most dangerous time for driving during a bank holiday weekend is between 3pm and 6pm.

Gardaí say their extensive roads policing operation will continue across the Easter weekend, until Tuesday morning
