Just over a quarter of a million euro has been allocated for 14 community water quality improvement projects in Galway
It's part of a €2.4 million nationwide Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage fund, administered by the Local Authority Waters Programme
The aim of the funding is to support groups in delivering meaningful projects that protect and restore local rivers, lakes and streams
Projects in Galway have been awarded funding under two sections
Firstly, the Community Water Development Fund:
ADL Woodland Group Galway for the Kilafeen River Restoration Project - €40,000
Annaghdown Angling Club for Kilroe River alternate water supply and tree planting - €2440
Bailte Slachtmhara Na Forbacha for the Knocka Lough Project - €5000
Centre for Environmental Living & Training - CELT for Shannon River Keepers Source to Sea - €12000
Corrib Beo for Lough Corrib to Protect Water Quality and Biodiversity - €5503
Galway Chamber Sustainability Committee for Greening Merchants Road and Laneways Galway - €4000
Portumna Beo Biodiversity Group for nature-based solutions to improve local water quality and habitats - €5000
The Kylemore Trust for Dawros River IAS survey - €6000
Woodford Parish Development for Woodford Bay - €4000
Secondly, the Catchment Support Fund:
CELT - €2,500
Corrib Beo - €50,000
Cuan Beo Environmental CLG - €46,400
Joyce Country and Western Lakes GeoEnterprise - €20,000
