Labour selects Councillor Helen Ogbu to contest Galway West by-election

Labour has selected Councillor Helen Ogbu to contest the Galway West by-election due to be held in April or May

The councillor was the sole candidate at the convention held last night in the Radisson RED Hotel in Crown Square

The event was addressed by Labour leader Ivana Bacik, and several members of the parliamentary party.

Helen Ogbu told the gathering her campaign priorities will be housing, public transport and tackling the cost of living:

She previously contested the 2024 General Election, having been first elected to Galway City Council earlier that year.

Other candidates who have declared to date are Independent Ireland Cllr Noel Thomas, Independent Cllr Tom Welby, Niall Murphy of the Green Party and Independent Sheila Garrity from Knocknacarra
