A local advocacy group has set out its vision for Galway Airport at an event in Claregalway today.
At its heart, the Galway Aviation & Innovation Advocacy Group is urging the city and county councils to retain the runway at Galway Airport.
The last flight to depart from site - which is jointly owned by the city and county councils - was in 2011, and it has been leased to the Galway Flying Club in recent years.
The group - which has not formally submitted an expression of interest to the local authorities - today laid out its proposal for the 115 acres in Carnmore
Their vision includes an Emergency Services Base, an Express Cargo Gateway, a Security Surveillance hub, a Commercial Air training Academy and an Airside Innovation Campus.
Our reporters Sarah Slevin and James Varley attended the event in Claregalway Castle this afternoon to speak to members of the group and public representatives
