Local MEP Ciaran Mullooly says Irish farmers mustn't be buried under another layer of EU red tape.
That's the warning from the Independent Ireland, who says new EU budget reporting proposals could lead to more inspections, audits and paperwork.
MEP Mullooly was speaking following a presentation which proposes a budget expenditure tracking and performance framework for EU programmes and activities.
As negotiations on the next EU budget continue, MEP Mullooly has told the European Agriculture Committee that farmers are already carrying a heavy administrative burden under existing EU rules.
