Mayor of Galway Cllr Mike Cubbard says he is disappointed that Galway West has lost an independent voice following the by-election.
Fine Gael's Sean Kyne has now taken the Dáil seat vacated by President Catherine Connolly, who served as an Independent TD for a decade.
Councillor Mike Cubbard was the last remaining independent candidate in the by-election when he was eliminated on the seventh count.
He hasn't ruled out running in the next General Election, but says it was a gruelling campaign and said it's too far out to decide yet.
