The ongoing spreading of huge amounts of oats all over the city, attracting rats and birds, is leading to serious injuries due to slips.
That's what a meeting at City Hall heard last night, as Councillor Shane Forde claimed city-centre GP's are "at their wits end".
He said multiple patients have been hurt, and in one case recently, an older woman actually broke her hip.
The regular spreading of the oats has been going on for years - but Galway City Council says it's a difficult issue to solve and it is tackling the situation from several different angles.
Councillor Forde says the local authority could end up facing legal action from those who have slipped and hurt themselves.
