A resident's appeal taken against new apartment blocks in Knocknacarra has failed.
Highcross Developments Limited plans to build two blocks up to 6 stories in height at a brownfield site opposite the Clybaun Hotel.
This development would offer 40 apartments in total, mostly two and three bed units.
Other elements include a public open space with playground, seat, and table tennis area.
There were a considerable number of local objections to the plans when they were first submitted to Galway City Council.
Among the many complaints were density and scale, overlooking and overshadowing, lack of open space, traffic impact, and lack of public transport options.
After city planners granted permission, residents then took an appeal to An Coimisiún Pleanála, which has now ruled it can go ahead.
They found it wouldn't adversely impact nearby properties, is an effective use of the site, and would make a positive contribution to the character and liveability of the city.
