Galway City Council has launched a new initiative, to highlight the city's "invisible" urban Gaeltachts.
'An Ghaeltacht' signs have been installed at the boundaries of eight Gaeltacht townlands within the city boundaries.
They are Baile an Phoill, Tír Oileáin, Baile an Dúlaigh, Mionlach, An Pháirc Mhór, An Caisleán Gearr, Cúil Each, and Cnoc na Cathrach.
These areas have been officially recognised as Irish-speaking communities for 100 years - but have been somewhat obscured by the growth and expansion of Galway City.
Galway City Council says many people are living and working in, visiting, or passing through Gaeltacht areas without ever realising it.
