More 30km/h speed limit zones to be implemented in Galway City

The 30km/hour speed limit zones within Galway City are to be extended to all public roads within housing estates, and all roads around school entrances.

First introduced in 2023, the 30km limit will also apply to on roads classed as having more vulnerable road users, such as Silverstrand and Threadneedle Road

The specifics for the by-laws are due to be finalised by the end of October, with a date for full implementation set for the end of March next year

Labour Councillor for Galway City West, Niall McNelis, says that education and proper enforcement is required for these changes to be effective.
