New parking byelaws have been introduced for Galway City.
The measures were approved by councillors at City Hall last night - though many felt the new byelaws don't go far enough.
This is the first time changes have been making to parking rules in the city since 2009.
The changes aren't seismic though, and are more about giving wardens more powers in specific circumstances.
One example is taking action against electric vehicles that are left parked in charging bays.
Another is that the local authority will now have more power to tow vehicles parked illegally - and recoup the cost from the owners.
But last night, many councillors argued the bye-laws don't go far enough.
One sticking point was the issue of campervans parking overnight in residential areas, and another was residents in many areas of the city unable to park anywhere near their own homes.
Others wanted all references to clamping removed completely, despite insistence from city officials that they have no intention of using clamping, but wanted to keep that avenue open.
Councillors ultimately passed the new bye-laws but only as a stepping stone - with city officials to come back with further measures at a later date.
