A new library at the University of Galway will receive a grant worth 260 thousand euro to fund solar panel installations
The Dr Karen Guinee Library received the EBSCO grant for its demonstration of exceptional commitment to environmental stewardship
4 of the 5 recipients of the grant were institutions in the US, with UG being the sole institution outside the states to recieve funding
The library is being named after past student Dr Karen Guinee, who was murdered in Galway city in 2006 at the age of 23, a week out from her graduation as a doctor.
The building is currently still under construction, and it's hoped it will be completed next year
Overlooking the river Corrib, the state-of-the-art library will have over 2,000 study spaces and will be equipped with the latest technology
