New VR headsets ease children's anxiety at Portiuncula Hospital

New state of the art virtual reality headsets aimed at reducing anxiety for children being treated in hospital have been introduced at Portiuncula Hospital.

The technology is known as "Smileyscope" - and aims to guide children through common issues such as needle phobia or having bloods taken.

It does this by introducing them to immersive virtual worlds which distract and relax them during medical procedures.

Ann Marie Furlong, Clinical Nurse Manager in Paediatrics, says it helps convert fear into confidence, giving children a sense of calm
