New website shows Galway among top 5 wind energy generators in country

Galway has been listed in the top five counties for wind energy generation.

Wind Energy Ireland has launched a new interactive website, which provides a county-specific breakdown of wind energy generation.

The breakdown also highlights the carbon emissions savings facilitated by local wind farms.

The County Colour Dashboard shows Galway produced over 5.5% of Ireland’s wind energy in 2023, amounting to 833 Gigawatt hours.

To put that into context, a single gigawatt-hour is the same amount of power consumed by around 230 Irish families every year.

The top wind energy producer was Kerry, followed by Cork, Tipperary and Galway in fourth.

Over 7% of Galway county council’s commercial rates for the year came from wind farms, totalling over €2.3 million.

The new interactive platform can be found at windenergyireland.com
