The re-designed Dún Aonghasa visitor centre on the Aran Island of Inis Mór has been unveiled by Minister Peter Burke and Junior Minister Kevin 'Boxer' Moran
The 1.6 million euro upgrade includes enhanced internal layouts, sustainability and climate adaptation measures, an improved interpretive exhibition, a new multi-lingual digital app for self-guided visits
The visitor centre is located at the start of a 1km pedestrian route to the 100-metre-high cliff-top fort with Dún Aonghasa being the largest of the prehistoric stone forts of the Aran Islands
Today's ceremony is also being attended by Caroline Bocquel, CEO Fáilte Ireland and Michael MacDonagh, Chief Archaeologist with the Department of Heritage, both funding partners along with the Office of Public Works
OPW Minister Kevin moran says it's a well spent investment as more and more people need to turn to their heritage
