Outsourcing costs for PET scans at UHG exceeded €1.35 million in 2025

Outsourcing costs for PET scans at University Hospital Galway exceeded 1.35 million euros in 2025.

This is according to parliamentary questions submitted by Independent Ireland TD Michael Fitzmaurice.

The total spend to outsource these scans exceeded 5.17 million euros for the past five years.

The cost of of a PET scanner can range from 1.6 million euros to 2.8 million for more high-end models.

Midlands North West MEP for Independent Ireland Ciaran Mullooly says that the hospital needs the scanner.
