Over 50% of septic tanks in Galway County failed inspections in 2025
The data, released by the Environmental Protection Agency, shows that out of 106 inspections carried out this year, 56 failed their inspections.
In Galway City, just 5 inspections were carried out, with each tank passing.
Nationally, almost 6 in 10 septic tanks failed environmental checks, out of more than 14 hundred inspections.

Speaking to Galway Talks, Lorcan Farrell, inspector for the EPA, says the majority of the tanks in Galway that failed have already been fixed.
