Over €14 million has been allocated to active travel schemes and Greenway projects across Galway City and County for 2026.
The funding announced this morning by government, will support delivery of walking and cycling infrastructure in the county.
10 million euros of the 14.46 million has been allocated to Galway City Council to support walking and cycling infrastructure within the city.
€2.36 million has been allocated to Galway County Council with €1 million of that going towards work on the Ballindereen Cycleway.
Multiple schools in the county also saw sizeable funding, with Calasanctius College Oranmore, Scoil Sailearna, Invernin and Scoil na bhForbacha, Furbo to recieve €450,000, €149,000 and €166,00- respectively under the safe routes to school programme.
The funding comes as part of a €360 million nationwide package for almost 1,000 projects across the country, as the Government expects to deliver 200 km of walking and Cycling infrastructure in 2026.
