The empty Palás Cinema in the city is set to remain idle after a potential new operator backed out late in negotiations.
The controversial building at Spanish Parade was completed and opened in 2018 with millions of euro of public funding.
But despite being heavily subsidized, the private operator said it still wasn't commercially viable and it closed in 2024.
Now, Galway City Council is trying to find a new operator that would use it as a arts and cultural space.
But a meeting at City Hall last night heard an interested party backed out after learning how much it would cost to refit the building.
David Nevin spoke afterwards to Fianna Fail Councillor Mike Crowe - who thinks it's time to stop wasting taxpayers money and cut it loose.
