A plaque is being unveiled in Salthill this morning to commemorate Dr. Arthur Colahan, the author of iconic song and global hit 'Galway Bay'.

The song is believed to have been written in 1947, and it became an international sensation, for a time being the best selling record in the world.

A special commemorative plaque honouring city-native Arthur Colahan, inscribed with the lyrics of the song, will be unveiled at Salthill Prom this morning.

Meanwhile, a plaque is also being unveiled this morning to honour former Galway United footballer Tommy Keane.
