A commercial proposal for the empty Pálás cinema building in the city will be revealed next month.
The cinema closed last year after the private operator said it was making unsustainable losses despite minimal rent.
The Pálás building is owned by Galway City Council, which committed millions in public funding to complete the building for its opening in 2018.
Since it closed, there's been all kinds of suggestions as to what should happen next - ranging from a public library to apartments.
Nothing's been officially confirmed yet, but it's expected it'll be an arts and cultural space.
At City Hall this week, management confirmed an operator with a "strong background" is involved, and a commercial proposal will be revealed next month.
They expressed confidence it'll be a viable proposal that won't need any financial support from Galway City Council.
"We've received a lot of representations, and we have to ensure it's sustainable long term", they added.
