Protest in Athenry demands reversal of GRETB funding cuts

A protest took place in Athenry this afternoon, demanding a reversal of cuts to courses offered by the Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board.

The cuts are as a result of a budget reduction from further education body SOLAS, and affect English language classes and adult literacy programmes.

Local Sinn Fein TD Louis O Hara has previously said the cuts essentially amount to 25 teachers being let go and 150 classes being cancelled.

This afternoon's protest included teachers, tutors and students, who demonstrated outside the GRETB buildings at Station Road.
