The Galway public are being encouraged to get involved in the first-ever 'Great Big All Ireland Hedgehog Count'.
It's an initiative led by Hedgehog Conservation Ireland, based at the University of Galway.
It aims to build a better picture of where hedgehogs are still thriving, and where they're struggling, in order to better protect them.
Across Europe, hedgehogs are now classified as 'Near Threatened' and numbers have declined significant in recent decades.

Lead researcher Elaine O' Riordan says public involvement is vital.
