An emergency public meeting in the city will demand housing be made a central issue for the upcoming by-election.
It will bring together workers, students, and community representatives to discuss the impact of the housing crisis and address rising rents, lack of supply, and growing housing insecurity.
The panel includes Michael Taft of SIPTU, University of Galway Students Union President-elect Seán de Búrca, along with spokespeople for Community Action Tenants Union and the Galway Traveller Movement.
The meeting - organised by the Galway Council of Trade Unions - is being held at The Mick Lally Theatre on Druid Lane tomorrow evening at 7PM.
The group point to recent figures which underline the scale of the problem; saying rents continue to rise sharply.
By the end of 2025, they say the average rent for a two-bedroom apartment in Galway City was €2,113, an increase of 8.4% from the previous year, while a three-bedroom house in Galway County averaged €1,729 per month.
The meeting will provide a forum for sharing experiences, discussing solutions, and urging election candidates to commit meaningful action on housing.
