Rare funnel cloud in Athenry as high temperature warnings end

A rare funnel cloud was spotted in the sky above Athenry yesterday evening

Although similar in appearance to a Tornado, the cloud didn't touch the ground and is has been classed as a funnel cloud.

This type of cloud is uncommon in Ireland and generally number around 10 per year.

A Status Orange thunderstorm warning that was in effect yesterday evening is now expired.

It was previously in effect in Sligo, Galway, Mayo and Roscommon.

A high temperature warning for the entire country ended at 9am today.
