Rents up by 18% in Galway city and 10% in county during first quarter this year

Rents in Galway City were up by an average of 18 percent in the first three months of this year - compared to last.

The typical open-market rent of a two-bedroom apartment in the city was just shy of €2,300.

Meanwhile, the average price of a three-bed house in the county rose by 10.5 percent - to just over €1,700.

Nationally, rents surged in the first 3 months of this year, with the national average up 4.4 per cent since December.

Daft dot ie's Q 1 report for this year shows it was the sharpest quarterly increase since records began in 2002.

The average rent for a two-bedroom apartment nationwide is now more than 2-thousand-1-hundred euro a month.
