Report finds GIAF volunteer programme boosting social inclusion and sense of community

A new report has found that the Galway International Arts Festival is boosting social inclusion and a sense of community among volunteers.

Last year, almost 500 people volunteered, representing 64 nationalities, with half of those returning from the previous year.

The data analysis shows that 40 percent of 2025 volunteers experienced a large increase in 'Social Inclusion', while 58 percent reported an increased sense of community

The volunteer programme is showing strong support of social inclusion for people from marginalised or disadvantaged backgrounds

Along with the inclusive volunteer programme, a wide range of accessibility measures are lined up for this year's festival, which takes place from July 13th-26th.

Initiatives, with the support of Claddagh Credit Union, include captioned performances, ISL-interpreted events, touch tours, sensory backpacks, and relaxed hours .
