The newly published Housing Delivery Forum report has recommended the establishment of a Joint Galway City and County Housing Office as part of the roadmap to speed up housing
The report also highlights the importance of predictable multi-annual funding and the development of shared, integrated masterplans for Galway’s key growth areas
The City and County Councils and the Department of Housing have published the report of the Forum, held in Galway in November
It brought together senior representatives from local authorities, State agencies, utilities, approved housing bodies, developers, financial institutions and community organisations
The report finds that Galway has significant capacity to increase housing supply, with land, policy ambition and organisational commitment already in place.
However, it concludes that housing delivery is being constrained by a fragmented delivery system, particularly in relation to land activation, infrastructure provision, planning coordination and governance.
