Ongoing roadworks on the N83 between Galway City and Claregalway will take another six weeks to complete.
The works have caused significant traffic disruptions, with reports of cars being essentially trapped in Parkmore for long periods of time.
It's expected the issue will start to ease somewhat as the rolling works move past the Parkmore Junction.
Galway County Council says the contractor is aware of delays leaving Parkmore from 3pm onwards, and is implementing alternative alternative traffic management measures.
Motorists travelling to or from Galway City are asked to avoid the road where possible and divert to the motorway.
City Fine Gael Councillor Shane Forde says this is a perfect example of how NOT to carry out roadworks.
Meanwhile, County Cathaoirleach, Fine Gael Councillor David Collins, agrees it's a disaster.
