The speed limit in Ballinasloe town centre is set to be reduced to 30km/h from the current 50km speed limit.
As part of a national speed limit review, Ballinasloe was identified as having an urban core, which, under new recommendations, would see a decrease in the speed limit.
The change would come as part of the 2nd phase of a national plan, which will be operational by the end of March 2027.
Several local councillors raised issues with the review, citing the the 60km/h speed limit on the R358 Ahascragh being 'unfair' to motorists.
Fine Gael Councillor Alan Harney wants to see changes made to the layout of the Urban Core.
