Tánaiste to look into fairer pricing for Athenry-Galway train

The Tánaiste has pledged to look into the possibility of fairer pricing for the Athenry to Galway train service.

Raising the matter in the Dáil, local Fianna Fail TD Albert Dolan said adult pricing is more than €5 each way for the 20 minute journey.

But he pointed out that a commuter can travel from Clonsilla to Connolly Station in Dublin for just €2.60 each way, despite it being a longer journey.

Deputy Dolan argued it's unfair that better pricing structures and the leap card system are not available in Galway to encourage uptake of train services.

Speaking in response, Tánaiste Simon Harris said he would take the matter further.
