Taoiseach says cancellation of early Athenry train being looked at

The Taoiseach has been directly asked to intervene to save the early morning train from Athenry to Galway City.

The 6.50am service was funded as part of the ongoing redevelopment works at Ceannt Station.

But the NTA has confirmed it will not be continuing past August.

It's led to fierce criticism of the lack of public transport serving Athenry - including a lack of bus service for the past 18 months.

Responding to Galway East Sinn Fein TD Louis O' Hara in the Dáil, Michael Martin indicated the matter is actively being looked at.
