Taoiseach says "strong case" for UHG listing as critical infrastructure

The Taoiseach has agreed there's a "strong case" that UHG should be listed as critical infrastructure.

It's as Government is advancing the Critical Infrastructure Bill, to deliver key projects at an accelerated pace.

Raising the matter in the Dáil, Galway East Fianna Fail TD Albert Dolan referenced the recent appointment of a design team for a 300 bed expansion.

But he said between the planning process and bureaucratic red tape, it could be an incredibly long time before a shovel's in the ground.

Deputy Dolan asked that UHG be listed as critical infrastructure under the new legislation - and Taoiseach Micheal Martin was favorable to the idea.
